Dealing With Challenges and Difficulties – The Islamic Way

As Muslims, we believe that everything that happens in life is with Allah’s decree and is the best for us as He loves us more than 70 mothers. However, in times of difficulty, challenges and pain; this belief which has been injected into our hearts and minds since childhood gets badly shaken. We are forced to listen to the murmurings of Satan during those tough times and give up hope. Contrarily, a true believer should revive his faith even more during bad times and perceive it as an opportunity to increase his rank in front of Allah.

Dealing With Challenges and Difficulties – The Islamic Way

Below are some ways to deal with challenges the Muslim way; the way Holy Prophet (SAW) has shown and asked us to act and in the way which will make Allah happy.

Adopt patience

The belief that Allah tests those whom He loves should be etched in a Muslim’s heart, mind and soul.
“When Allah loves a person, He tests them, and whoever accepts it attains His pleasure, whereas whoever shows discontent with it incurs His wrath”.   Tirmidhi (2396)

The troubled Muslim should strongly believe that he is the chosen one of his Lord, Allah for the trial and if he surpasses it with dignity, faith and patience; he will be rewarded much more than he can imagine. Adopting patience means to not complain nor leave your faith, prayers and hope for Allah’s mercy.

Have trust in Allah’s mercy

We, as Muslims, should accept Allah’s Decree as His decisions govern the entire universe.  Alongside, having trust, we should also have full confidence in Allah’s mercy as He does not test a soul beyond its limits.

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear”.   Quran – Surah Al-Baqarah:286

Revive your faith

We should see the tough times as an opportunity to revive your faith and become better Muslims. It is easy to give into the manifestations of Satan and turn your head and faith away from the Creator of the world. However, that is a very wrong way to approach the challenge. One should keep their heads high and firmly belief that it is only Allah who can get them out of the situation.

“If Allah helps you, none can overcome you; and if He forsakes you, who is there after Him that can help you? And in Allah (Alone) let believers put their trust.”   Quran - Surah Al-Imran: 160

Remember Allah in good times

We know from the story of Prophet Younus (AS) who was swallowed by a whale that we should not forget Allah in good times. If we forget Allah in good times, He will not help us in tough times. In fact, when life is blessed and we are happy and healthy; that should be the time one should go to Allah more with gratitude and praise.

“Remember me, I shall remember you.”  Quran – Surah Al-Baqarah: 152

Niyyah (Intention): Stand in front of Kaabah facing Hajar-e-Aswad (the Black Stone) in such a way that the whole Hajre-e-Aswad is on your right side. To achieve this end, you may get help from the black stripe on the floor. This stripe should be on your right side. Then without raising your hands make Niyyah (intention) for Tawaf Umrah: " O Allah, I perform Tawaf of Masjide Haram to please You. Make it easy for me and accept it from me."
